Festival and side activities

The Pruning Contest will be the centerpiece of a countryside celebration dedicated to “know-how in the vineyard,” open – with free admission – to everyone, pruners, families, friends, and enthusiasts. The day will kick off for the participants at 8:00 with the blessing of the pruners by the Parish Priest of Castelnuovo Berardenga, followed by the Pruner’s Breakfast, organized by the Diversamente Eroici association. The competitions will start at 10:00, coinciding with the beginning of various side activities. To complement the competitions, there will be music, themed stalls, and a series of agricultural-related activities, including workshops with artisans practicing their traditional crafts and the Scissors Atelier hosted by FELCO, a leading company in the sector and an international partner of Simonit&Sirch. FELCO is also the Main Sponsor, along with FINE+RARE, of the event, which enjoys the patronage of the Consorzio Chianti Classico, the Municipality of Castelnuovo Berardenga, and the ASA Italian Agri-Food Press Association.

Among others, the event will feature the record-breaking mountaineer Simone Moro, who will use his helicopter to offer brief tours for an aerial view of the stunning hills of Chianti and Siena. Da Move will present an adrenaline-pumping freestyle and acrodunking basketball performance, while the world champion roller skater Lorenzo Guslandi will showcase his extraordinary artistic skating performances. The Lumberjack Athletes Mattia Berbenni, Alessandro Ciaponi, and Diego Gabbrini will demonstrate axe, saw, and chainsaw cutting.

Local artisans will be engaged in their crafts, and there will be demonstrations of vineyard work with animal traction using horses. Stations will be set up for tasting Chianti Classico and various food trucks offering local specialties.

For the little ones, a corner of the vineyard will be reserved, with rows marked by giant colored pencils. They will participate in “Wannabe a pruninguy”: each child will choose a vine shoot, plant it, mark it with their name and date, creating a symbolic vineyard as a good omen for the future. Various activities are planned for them, including a carriage ride through the vineyards and educational visits to the Happy Garden, the natural garden of San Felice, involving local elderly residents and some differently-abled youth in the work.
